The mountaineering company Jostedalen Breførarlag was established in 1987 by the certified mountain guides Steinar Bruheim, Heidi Zimmermann, Thore Stensberg and Arve Tvedt.
Our company is located in Western Norway near the Sognefjord in the valley Jostedalen from where the well-known and popular Nigardsbreen Glacier easily is accessed.
We offer guiding and instruction services on glaciers and alpine climbing in the high mountains of the Jostedalsbreen and the Jotunheimen National Park.
The total number of visitors is approx. 12 000 people during the summer season from May till October.
Our team consists of both nationally and internationally qualified glacier- and mountain guides with solid knowledge of local and international mountain areas.
In the main season, we employ approx. 25-30 guides. Many of our employees are from Scandinavia, some even from Nepal.
Our employees from Nepal are internationally qualified mountain guides; Tshering Pande Bhote, Jyamchang Bhote Salakha, Mingma Tsiri Sherpa, Pasang Tenzing Sherpa, Chhiring Sonam Lama, Tsering Pemba Sherpa, Furtemba Sherpa, Densa Bhote, Jamling Bhote, Pimba Tenjing Lama, and are guiding in spring and autumn season in the Himalayas on many different treks, e.g. Island Peak and Lobuche Peak, Everest Base Camp, etc. and they also conduct expeditions to Mt. Everest, Manaslu, Makalu and other 8000 meters summits as well. All our Nepali have reached the summit of Mount Everest several times, Mingma Tsiri Sherpa even 20 times!
All internationally qualified mountain guides are members of the international federation of mountain guides (IFMGA), providing a guarantee for quality and safety. The qualification is represented in Norway by the Norwegian association of mountain guides (NORTIND).
Jostedalen Breførarlag is also a Norwegian national certified NORSK FJELLSPORTFORUM (NF) course holder at the highest level.
